Next Workshop

2 day Workshop: Saturday October 28, 2017 (Day 1)
and Saturday November 18, 2017 (Day 2)

Lorna Shapiro
"Design 101"

My 35 year working career was "left brain" focused, working in I.T. and as an associate Dean. I retired and my "right brain" came out to play! Quilting has become my consuming passion. Japanese materials and their unique aesthetic speak to my heart. I love the entire creative process starting with design and fabric selection. Selling fabrics from my home and teaching at guilds, I broaden the group of quilters with whom I come in contact with and from whom I can learn. My customers and students are women who are engaged in a creative activity that makes them happy, and our friendships enrich my life.

This 2 day workshop is for quilters who have created quilts from patterns and are moving on to designing their own quilts. Theory and Technique are integrated throughout the workshop, allowing participants to:

  1. gain theoretical framework from which to evaluate and improve upon their quilt designs.
  2. experience a design process that supports the evolution and refining of a quilt design.
  3. learn new sewing techniques that allow a broader range of elements to be incorporated in their quilt design.

Participants coming to the workshops are asked to bring some fabric that they "LOVE" (this is important) and have been wanting to incorporate it into a quilt. They may have a design concept in mind, however this is not necessary as a starting point. Ideas will be quickly generated.

Day Two - Saturday November 18, 2017

Harrison Hot Springs Fall Retreat

leaves quilt for Harrison

Date: October 13, 14, 15 and 16, 2017

Registration for our annual retreat will be at the April meeting. Last year the third night was so successful we will be again offering either two or three nights at Harrison.

Two nights: October 13 and 14 and includes dinner Friday and Saturday and breakfast Saturday and Sunday. Total price is $405.00

Three nights: October 13, 14 and 15 and includes the meals that are in the two night package and coffee on Monday morning. Total price is $520.00

All three night participants need to be rooming with another 3 night participants. So if you have a preferred roommate please make sure you are both planning to stay the same length of time. If you do not have a preferred roommate we will try and match you up.

In an effort to simplify a number of things for the guild, Cathy and I will be using a joint bank account to manage the Harrison money. This keeps the funds out of guild accounts. So that means cheques are to be made payable to either Cathy Galbraith or Lynne Fanthorpe.

If you have any questions please contact me.
