Val Smith and her team: Update on her amazing fundraising efforts

Hi everyone!

I did intend to do an update on the quilt show and fundraising before now, but it seems that something always got in the way. But let me first say that the show was a huge success and a thrilling experience for me. So many friends dropped by to wish me well and see the quilts. I rarely had a chance to catch my breath. I was quite tired by the end of each day, but it was truly a satisfying kind of fatigue.
This is what the show looked like when hung on the Thursday. (It’s actually a straight wall but was shot in “panoramic” view which accounts for the distortion.)
A big thanks to my team. I could not have done it without their work before, during and after the show….. Robin, Elena, Donna
And final team member, Cher (on left).
We never could get everyone together for one shot!
An example of the the crowds we had for the show.
But the highlight of the two days was definitely this young boy (that I later learned was Levi) who was completely engaged in “designing” his own art quilt!
And now for the final tally…..
By the end of the show, 23 of the 27 quilts were sold! Absolutely more than I ever dreamed possible! At this point, I am just getting ready to complete the final deposits to the BC Cancer Foundation. It looks like the sales from the show, when added to the fundraising on my personal page, have brought the total to over $18,000! I am overwhelmed and honoured by the support of so many people. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Anne Marie’s Summer project

Hello all:

Once again Anne Marie has given us a summer challenge, to be completed in time for September Show and Tell.

The challenge is to make a sewing machine cover!

Not sure where to begin:

Type into Google (cause Google knows everything) “free patterns for sewing machine covers”. Thousands of ideas will pop up.

Happy Sewing!

“Connected Again”

What are your plans for this weekend?

Come out and support your fellow members at Fraser Valley Quilters’ Guild’s first quilt show in several years! There will be many quilts that have never been seen before. The members market is sure to have some homemade items that would make perfect gifts for friends and family.

The vendors are coming! Who isn’t excited to see all the vendors in one place!

Where: George Preston Recreation Centre, 20699 – 42nd Avenue, Langley, BC

When: Friday May 12 and  Saturday May 13   10:00am to 5:00pm

Admission: $10.00 per person

See you there!!!

It’s just 10 days away!!!! We will be connected again

Click on the link below and find out where, what time and who the featured artists are.. There will be a special display created by Val Smith called  “Tenement series” . This series plus other exciting series that she has on display will be for sale and the funds raised are for BC Cancer Society.

FVQG is fortunate to have many “award winning” quilters as members. Look for them along with 200+ quilts that will be on display.

If that isn’t enough, we have a large lineup of vendors to peruse. Local “mom and pop”shops we need to support. I am certain you will be able to find some sort of trinket you must have!

See you there!
